IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator

IRON NEST is a dieselpunk heavy artillery turret simulator developed for Steam (App ID 2950790). Players operate a single stationary railway gun through a 15-mission campaign, solving live triangulation problems, managing six powder charge tiers, surviving counter-battery exchanges, and steering four mutually exclusive endings.

Genre: Artillery Simulation Platform: Windows / Linux / macOS Developer: Nick Nieuwoudt & Dominik Latos Release: 2026

§ Core Mechanics

Unlike traditional artillery games that abstract ballistics into dice rolls, IRON NEST makes the operator perform the full firing procedure by hand: read the teleprinter order, plot spotter bearings on the tactical map, draw a firing line from the turret's current position, compute elevation from powder charge count, load the breach, traverse the turret, and confirm impact. Every step introduces failure modes - a contaminated spotter bearing, a stale firing solution after emergency move, or a wrong shell selection against armored targets.

Six Powder Charge Tiers

Shell range depends on powder charge count - verified examples: M01 Calibration Fire at 8.91 km uses 2 charges, M02 Fire & Light at 13.8 km uses 3 charges. Set elevation with the in-game ballistic calculator or a test shot.

Triangulation & The Spotter Fallacy

Two spotter bearings define a target via line intersection. The spotter angle is never the turret bearing - the operator must draw a new firing line from Iron Nest's position to the intersection.

Counter-Battery Warfare (CBT)

Enemy artillery locks onto your muzzle flashes. Operators have a strict 60–120 second window to fire, complete emergency relocation, and reset firing geometry before incoming salvos destroy the Nest.

Four Campaign Endings

Mission 15 presents four mutually exclusive strategic choices with distinct shell payloads: A City in Celebration (PRPG), A City Subdued (Chemical), The Road Not Taken (Rebellion), and A City Silent (Atomic strike).

§ Campaign at a Glance

The campaign spans 15 missions across dieselpunk European coastal theaters, escalating from a calibration exercise (M01) to the four-branch finale White Shells (M15) where previous shell doctrine unlocks one of four mutually exclusive city fates.
